Today, It's Vladivostok, Tomorrow, the WORLD!

My main assignment in Vladivostok was to teach English as a Foreign Language at OKEAH. On weekends, I spent a lot of time at the orphanges and homeless shelters for children. Mostly, I taught the kids how to play football (somewhere out there, there's a Russian kid out there that swears "yinz" is a real word and Franco Harris is a god), but a friend and I would take the kids on field trips throughout the city.
Vladivostok was the hub of the Soviet Union's Navy, and as a result, there is still a strong dedication to the military here. This picture was taken on a trip to the Military Museum. We posed here in front of this cannon for a quick shot, and then I joked how it must look like we were at war with the city.
Bad idea.
Winter in Russia is bitter cold, easily hitting -40. I must've spent a good twenty minutes using my limited Russian to convince the boys that they needed to abandon their "battle stations" and stop "bombing" their school with the decommisioned howitzer we found. I think I had to promise them ice cream, or something like that to get them to stop.
Torrance CA

Satellite view of my hometown, Torrance CA. Growing up in So. Cal. was awesome. I guess we did the normal type of stuff as most kids in the U.S. Californians really aren't the nutcases that the rest of the country thinks we are. And now that I live in Texas, I can confirm that everyone outside of CA thinks Californians are crazies.
Run, Nate, Run!

The rain stopped, and the temps held on at 40 something. Nate, my wife Sandy, and I went out side and burned off some energy. Nate burned off enough for all three of us. Here's my favorite picture of the afternoon... The afternoon was just... a blur.

Khairul Fahmi

According to Khairul, he's been a goalie since the age of 11 and he hasn't looked back since. So much for the goalie being played by the slowest kid.
He was odd in the most hilarious ways. He came by with purple superman slippers; had this smile that would make you burst out laughing; tried to get your attention like a impatient but well behaved child. But the clincher has to be the look he gives the camera for most if not all his pictures. GANAS...
