The Legendary Punta Cruz Tower (Maribojoc, Bohol, Philippines)

Castillo Des Vicen. Overlooking Bohol's southern seas, it was built in 1796 as a fortification against marauders and other Muslim pirates. The Punta Cruz Watch Tower is dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer (where a statue is found inside -- just behind me.)

Outside, a big Cross stands as a silent sentinel guarding the entrance to the bay, just behind this watch tower. (View me: BIGGER is BETTER.)

Come and visit this triangular-shaped Punta Cruz Watch Tower in the Philippines to see the spectacular views of Cebu, Siquijor and Mindanao.

Getting There:

Get a bus at the Tagbilaran Integrated Bus Terminal in Dao and board off at Punta Cruz Watch Tower, Philippines -- about 13 kilometers off Tagbilaran City.

Bohol Factoids:

Bohol Island, southeast of Cebu, is the Philippines' tenth largest island. Rich in agriculture and fishing, Bohol has been discovered by tourists seeking the simple charm of a rustic retreat. The rich tropical waters off Panglao island ebb and flow above some of the Philippines most seductive dive sites: the islands of Pamilacan and Balicasag.

The oldest stone church is located at Baclayon, six kilometers off Tagbilaran (now contested with the Loboc Church).

Panglao Church with its twin antique confessionals and the church at Dauis, are worth visiting.

The world's smallest monkey, the Philippine Tarsier, shares a sanctuary with exotic flora and fauna near the inland town of Bilar.

Bohol's mysterious Chocolate Hills are the island's premier attraction. Ranging in height from 40 to 120 meters, the 1268 dot hills resemble like giant scoops of chocolate ice cream during the dry seasons.

Discover Paradise that is Bohol.

Kimono Stock Photo: Kurotomesode Skirt w Fan Motif, Matsu, Shippou, Yuzen, Nuido
stock photo sites
This is from the skirt of a kurotomesode, which came in a huge lot of antique kimono scraps and fabrics months back; I forgot to photograph it until now.

It's a stock photo if you want it, just like most of my kimono photographs.

The fan features "shippou" (interlocking circles, symbolic shorthand for the 8 Buddhist treasures) and stylized "matsu" (pine trees.) The pattern seems to be done in something that LOOKS LIKE yuzen, but it feels a bit stiffer, so I want to say that it might be some type of fake yuuzen? The nuido (Japanese embroidery) on the "kumihimo" (cords) is, at least, legitimate nuido.

Thanks to grey goat for the name of the Japanese fan type- "sensu" and the cord "kumihimo". It had slipped my mind, and her site is a useful reference for kimono motifs. ^_^"
