Glow Frame

I bought some water based ultra blue glow paint from Glow Inc. I didn't know what to do with it for a while, but I finally decided to make a glowing panel mounted in a picture frame. I bought a sheet of P99 anti-glare acrylic to replace the glass glazing. I sanded the back side and applied 5 coats of glow paint. I applied another 3 coats of varathane clear coat. Even after 5 coats, the brightness is still very uneven. This is probably a combination of uneven coat thickness and the fact that some of the paint seems not to glow as well as the rest. The consistency is not like any paint that I am used to. It is closer to a thin paste than anything else. It does not self level or even soak into the brush.

Testing the spacing of the cardboard spacers. A milky white acrylic "diffuser screen" is going to be placed on top of this.

The idea here is to put the 8x8 LED matrix into an Ikea picture frame. The cardboard cut-outs are used as spacers to hold the LED matrix off of the front panel which is a sheet of milky white acrylic. If this works, I should get nice big red round dots displayed through the acrylic sheet.

Connectors for LED rows and columns on the back side of the picture frame. By using male pins it can be used with different projects.
