Parbold signal box is located by the Up Main line adjacent to Station Road level crossing. Wednesday 18th June 1986

Parbold signal box is a Saxby and Farmer Type 9 design was originally opened in 1877 for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway fitted with an 18 lever Saxby and Farmer frame. The box was closed and replaced by a temporary signal box on 24th April 1983 to allow the original frame to be replaced by a 20 lever London Midland Region Standard frame, reopening on15th May 1983

Although looking very much in original condition the box has been slightly modified. The verticle boarding below the operating floor windows has replaced the original horizontal lapped boarding. And below the 2x2 operating floor windows in the end of the box the single pane sliding sashes have been replaced by fixed panes which are a slightly larger size

The nameboard is a Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway design and carries the word cabin which is how the L&YR referred to their signal boxes. The bottom piece of beading missing

The level crossing gates were replaced by lifting barriers between 1987 and 1991, and the box is now a listed building
